Bangkok 3rd Day: The Finale (August 5th 2008)

This day is the last day of our journey. I was a little sad at that time, realizing that the journey must come to an end. But still, I tried to enjoy Bangkok for the last time. This day, the group divided into two groups. Kozzy and I wanted to go to Emporium Mall and the others, kenneth-yudi-dewi-rio-christo decided to go to other place. We must go back to the hostel before 3 p.m.

Emporium mall is not far from our hostel. Just took BTS sukhumvit line and stop at Phrom Phong station. Why did we want to go there? Because there’s a store, named “Propaganda”, that sold many unique and absurd things. Believe me, there are so many unique things there that I really want to buy. Finally, I decided to buy a cute mug, tooth-shaped box, and absurd pencil case while kozzy bought the FEMALE UNDERWEAR-shaped pencil case (ah, I didn’t have the picture). I reccomend you to go to this store if you visit Bangkok. After shopping at Propaganda, we decided to go MBK mall.

In front of MBK
MBK mall is the right place for shopping, if you hate the traditional market like Chatucak or Pratunam, because the price isn’t as expensive as other mall. I think it is equivalent with mall/ITC Ambasador in Jakarta. To reach MBK, you just have to took BTS and stop at National Stadium station. While we had lunch there, we saw many tourist, mostly female a.k.a ibu-ibu, from Bandung who were shopping. Actually we didn’t do shopping there and we decided to go to Jim Thompson Museum which is not far from MBK. So we had a little walk to reach the museum.

Jim Thompson was an owner of Thai silk company. When he went to malaysia, he mysteriously disappeared and until now, no one knows where he is. Then, his house was transformed into a museum. Before you enter the house, you must pay 100 baht for the ticket but because we are still under 25 years old, we got 50% discount hehehe...It was a guided tour inside the museum. There’s a tour guide who explained about Jim Thompson and every detail of his house. Basically, nothing special in this house but the Thai made the place become so special that can attract the foreigners. After the tour, we visited the silk shop in front of the museum. The silk is really good but really expensive. Not only silk, you can find other things like shirt, socks, bag and wallet. Finally we decided to buy small wallet for our mom because that was the only thing that we could afford hahaha....Because it was already 2 p.m., we went back to the hostel.

In other place, Rio and the others decided to go to MBK but somehow they got lost (lol). In the middle of the confusion, there was a thai woman came to them. She told them to go to Siam Expo because the place sold silk, gems etc with low price. Then, they went to that place by using tuk-tuk. After they got there, they saw a market with few visitors. They became suspicious, “is this the right place?”. Then they went to a store that sold gems and silk. According to them, the silk wasn’t smooth. They were offered gems with high price but my friends reject and he lowered the price, much-much lower but they still didn’t buy. They already had strange feeling for shopping there. When we finally met at the hostel, they told me about the story and we came into conclusion that they were almost being tricked. So, for you newcomers in Bangkok, beware of a woman (or man) that suddenly offers you to buy gems or silk. Luckily, my friends didn’t buy anything. Situation at Suvarnabhumi airport

So, it was 3 p.m. and we need to hurry to go to the airport because the hostel worker said that if we went later, we would trap in the Bangkok massive traffic jam. We went to the airport by taxi. We arrived at Suvarnabhumi at 4 p.m.while our flight was still on 8 p.m., so the check in counter was still closed. We decided to eat first at chinese restaurant and looked around this big airport. At 5 p.m. the counter opened and we checked in. As we predicted before, our baggage was overweight, so we must pay the charge. The flight got delay for almost 45 minutes so I just used the internet to fill the spare time. Finally, at 8.45 p.m., Indonesia AirAsia took us back to Soekarno-Hatta

Overall, it was a really great journey. We already prepared this for almost 7 months and the plans worked so smoothly. Singapore was so clean, made me enjoy my time. Phuket was so amazing ( the night life rocks!!!), PhiPhi was beautiful, Bangkok was such an international city, made wanna go back. Hah, finally the tour ends. It’s really nice to travel with you, my travel buddies. So, when will we go next year, friends? Hahaha....
